By change is not meant the change of the government. Rather, it means to stand up against the corrupt, outdated, oppressive and unjust electoral system. Real change would not be possible under the present system and if the incumbent system stayed intact, no leader would emerge from it even in hundred years.
Secretary General of Minhaj-ul-Quran International Dr Raheeq Ahmad Abbasi expressed these views while addressing a delegation of lawyers in Lahore, which called on him under the leadership of Irbrar Raza Advocate from Rawalpindi/ Islamabad. PAT Secretary General Anwar Akhtar Advocate, PAT Punjab President Lehrasib Gondal, M.H. Shaheedn were also present on the occasion.
Dr Raheeq Abbasi said that the present electoral system had robbed people of their right to decent life. He said that the system was geared towards protecting and advancing the interests of the elite at the cost of masses. He said that in order to secure the future of succeeding generations, install real and representative democracy and put the country on the path of equitable progress, the electoral system deserved to be sent packing.
Dr Abbasi said that establishment of National Government was the need of the hour to restore people’s trust in their future, which would offer a new social contract by working under the Constitution of Pakistan. The National Government, he said, must be composed of honest and competent representation from all sections of society.
